THE KEY TO FIRE SAFETY

REMEMBER,

If you are caught in smoke, take short breath and crawl to escape, because air nearer the floor is cleaner and less likely to contain deadly gases.

Do not jump out, building rescue might just be a few minutes away

Remember that few peoples are burned to death in fires. Most peoples die from smoke, poisonous gases and panic. Panic usually the result of not knowing what to do. If you have an escape plan and adapt it to the emergency. You can greatly increase your cahances of survival.

Inform someone of your presence. Call the telephone operator/receptionist/security. Beat at the door or signal the people below from the window to attract their attention.

Keep the fire out. Wet towels or sheets and wedge these under the door to prevent smoke from entering the room.

If you hear a fire alarm, evacuate by nearest exit immediately. If you hear announcement over the public addres system. follow the instruction calmly, do not panic.

Do not attempt to pack belongings, time is precious. do not attempt to pack your things, save your life first.

Do not use lifts, never attempt  to use lifts to evacuate. Use the exit stair.

Fire Escape plan,after checking into your room, get to know the location of all exits.

Fire alarm call point. Familiarise yourself with the location of the fire alarm call point on your floor.

Fire axtinguishers/fire hose reels. Know where these are located. it would be an asset to know how to operate them.
